7:08pm
Just got in from Yokohama University. Whooooole lot of walking from the subway station to the school. Uphill. In the sun. But I was doing just fine :V There wasn’t any humidity this time. So I was walking next to the professor there that was leading the way with no problems while everyone else was behind bitching, moaning and sweating. It was sweet :3
And now heading out for some Chinese food, then I’ll talk about the not-sweet parts of the day -_-
10:46
Ahhhh, that made up for the bad day so much. Even though I’m typing this outside of the room sitting on the floor because Jeff is a wimp and goes to bed at like 10 :\
Once more, take it from the top.
Woke up, made post, went and got the usual pancake set and headed downstairs. Usual stuff, hurry hurry hurry onto the train, rode the shinkansen all of 20 minutes to Yokohama. And while on the train, I found out that I would indeed be presenting the group presentation about our research paper. Amoroso changed his mind and now wants everyone to present twice instead of just once. O… balls.
So that was a nasty surprise. But since it was my slides from my original presentation just mixed in with the other two’s, nothing new.
But the bad shit was after that train ride. We got down to the subway and onto the train and as we were, Amoroso said ‘we’re getting off on 1’. Since the stops are numbered, I thought we’d be riding down to station 1. So I was standing in a separate car from the others. You know, big group crowded in one little spot =/= fun times. It’s not like the train was even separate. There were no doors separating the cars and there were even windows connecting them and we could all see eachother clearly. Then a few stops down the line, suddenly I hear someone knock on the window behind me, turn and see them all walking past. So I literally jumped out of the doors as they were closing, and the little suicide-prevention gate too. So then Amoroso got pissed off. As we were walking, he stopped us to get our bearings and have a meeting. He said ‘no more free doing what you want, no more going out drinking, leaving the hotel after dark. Now you don’t do anything unless I do it too,’ to the group.
So that left me pissed off. But then got some satisfaction back when it turned out he was wrong about the stop and we had to walk back to the subway and get back on the train.
I made sure to hang around the group the rest of the day after that and didn’t speak much.
But that walk to the university let out a lot of my frustration, and wore everyone else out too much to be pissy, so by then it was back to the usual.
Campus was awesome. It was huge, covered in green and old trees. So great. And since it was set far from the main city, it had a sweet-ass view. I would upload the pics with this entry, but like I said, Jeff is a sleeping lightweight and I didn’t’ get a chance to upload the pics before leaving for dinner. So I’ll upload the stuff later.
We gave our presentations and it was cool.
Went on a campus tour and even took us up to the top of a building to check out the view from the roof. Kick ass~
Came back and one of the professors presented on… um… fuck if I know x.x It was something like the differences between CS, IS and some other titles.. and how Japan is planning to further teach them…? Hell if I know.. I mean it honestly went in one ear and out the other because I hadn’t heard of a damned thing before. Dood, I’m an IS MINOR. I’ve only had two IS classes, both of them just hands-on, using programs. I’ve never had all these other classes like these guys have. I mean, it’s just like them going to a lecture on media law and theory. They’d be out in the ether and nodding off just like me. And I felt really bad. I mean he’s the guy I’d been walking to then around the school talking to, so I really wanted to pay attention to what he had to say.. but man… it’s just not my field… I took on this minor JUST because I already had one high level course in it and it can look good on a resume if I can do my own editing with photos, video, audio and writing, then have the know-how to not only post to a site, but actually make one.
At least it looks like a job-getter in my mind.
And this study abroad gets the last two classes I need for a minor out of the way instead of having to do any of the tear-my-hair-out programming.
SO! The trip there ended and we all decided to come back home instead of hanging out in Yokohama. Train ride back went smooth (and short) so nothing there. But then when we got back to Tokyo and got off the train in the platform they were all walking the wrong way to the exit. I mean, it wasn’t a far walk, the station dead-ended like 100ft ahead so I just stopped and waited (after calling out very loudly that the exit was behind us and they’re going the wrong way). Then Ben and Edo turn and yell ‘c’mon man stick with the group’ ‘if we get lost we do it together’ By the time they said that, I’d already walked across the terminal and rejoined with the head of the group as they looped back around. Then getting on the train for the final bit home Edo stumbled into the car and said ‘I don’t care what you have to say, but I’m starting to get pissed off’. I swear it took equal parts energy not to punch him in the nose… and not to laugh in his old face.
Seriously. The guy is like 60 years old and all he ever talks about is how he took his soccer team of boys to New York, how he’s a member of some dojo and how he was in the service (back in the civil war?). He always walks behind the group like the fucking bulldog.
And found out later that I wasn’t the only one that got annoyed as hell at him. One guy that was there said ‘it’s not his place to tell you off like that. He’s just another student, not the leader or even a senior in grade or experience here to anyone. And holy fuck is he annoying. He constantly asks questions during people’s presentations to us, not caring if it puts them over-time, then goes anally retentive if people aren’t within his blind-range of sight.
So then, we got back to the hotel which is when I made that first post, and then met back in the lobby at 7:20 to head off to get some Chinese. Turns out the ‘chinese’ was just a ramen shop. Oh well. I got the shrimp fried rice and…. I couldn’t finish it! I’m such a disgrace for being so fat! :V
So four of us ate there, the other 4 went to Freshness Burger. We met up again after that and they went to go get their cigars they bought outside of Yahoo to smoke. The non smokers bought icecream :3 We all smoked/ate outside a Mos Burger. But felt bad about taking up all the outside chairs and left after a few minutes. Then we all headed down the street to a river and just stood on the bank for an hour or more, just sitting around on the edge of the fence in the dark sections. Fucking awesome. I don’t have any pictures, but there’ll be some uploaded on facebook in a few hours lol.
I’m really glad I went. I mean, there was even a guy playing the sax on the other side of the river. Even though he was practicing (and sucked), he was still adding some really awesome ambient noise. Oh and he was trying to play Fly Me To the Moon btw. But I feel like it helped me close at least a bit of the distance between me and the rest of the guys.. if just by a little.
So after a while, me and another guy just decided to call it a night and headed back.
